Harp Performances
Jasmin Bey Cowin, a trained German harpist, studied at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik in Karlsruhe where she graduated in 1986 with a Diploma for Education and Orchestra harpist. From 1985-1986 she studied at the University of Houston American harp music through a Fulbright scholarship. To further her ensemble and orchestral playing she studied at Rice University, Houston, TX through a scholarship in Graduate Studies. Eventually she left for New York where she received her Masters (1989) and her Doctorate in Education (1992) from Columbia University. Her dissertation was on contemporary harp music and covered new repertoire for the harp. She recorded two CD’s in the 1990s.
While in Karlsruhe, Houston and New York, Dr. Cowin was active playing in various orchestras and as a solo harpist. She served as the principal harpist for the Student Symphony Orchestra of the University of Karlsruhe, the Houston University Symphonic Ensemble, the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, and The New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble. In addition, she performed at Gracie Mansion and at Columbia University.

A concert lecture on the pedal and lever harp on secular and sacred Jewish music exploring the many facets of love. The musical selection includes Jewish tunes from Corfu, Djerba, Crete, Israel, and Poland in the Sephardic, Bukharan and Ladino traditions.
